Cancer Counseling

Supportive cancer counseling conversation in a calm, welcoming office

Receiving a cancer diagnosis, beginning treatment, living with uncertainty, or adjusting to life after treatment can affect every part of your emotional life. Fear, sadness, anger, numbness, changes in identity, strain in relationships, and concern about the future are understandable responses to a difficult and often overwhelming experience.

Cancer counseling provides a confidential, compassionate, and non-judgmental place to talk openly about what you are facing. You do not have to protect other people from your feelings or pretend to be strong every moment. Together, we can identify practical ways to manage stress, communicate your needs, and regain a greater sense of stability and control.

Cancer counseling can help with:

  • Anxiety before appointments, tests, procedures, or treatment
  • Fear of recurrence and uncertainty about the future
  • Depression, grief, anger, isolation, or feeling unlike yourself
  • Changes in body image, intimacy, roles, work, and daily routines
  • Difficult conversations with partners, children, relatives, or friends
  • Caregiver stress, exhaustion, guilt, and changing family responsibilities
  • Adjustment during survivorship and after treatment ends
  • Grief and bereavement after the loss of someone you love

Support for Patients and Survivors

Every person’s experience with cancer is different. Counseling is individualized around your circumstances, values, relationships, and goals. The focus may include coping with treatment, managing intrusive fears, maintaining meaningful connections, rebuilding confidence, and making space for both difficult emotions and hope.

Support for Caregivers and Families

Partners, caregivers, and family members may feel frightened, helpless, overwhelmed, or unsure how to provide support while also caring for themselves. Counseling can help families communicate more clearly, establish healthy boundaries, navigate changing responsibilities, and respond to stress with greater understanding.

Grief and Bereavement

Grief does not follow a timetable. Individual counseling can offer support as you process loss, adjust to change, and find ways to carry your connection with the person you love while continuing to care for your own emotional well-being.
